Living The Healthy Edge
This is a blog of my journey to take my life back through Healthy Living and Healthy Eating ending the life long roller coaster ride of constantly fighting an unhealthy, overweight, and inactive lifestyle. My hope is that this journey will encourage others who have been fighting the same battles in their life. There is hope and it is possible. Healthy living and healthy eating is a goal we can not only achieve but also maintain for the rest of our life. Healthy living and eating require a plan and we'll discover that plan together. Moving forward I'll share all I learn, the up's and the down's, success and defeats, everything that happens along the way. I've been told in order to be successful I need to "tell everyone about what I'm doing" so I can be held accountable, now EVERYBODY will know and see my journey to Healthy Living and Healthy Eating.
What’s in an Eye Exam?
Written by Joe Militello Wednesday, 02 February 2011 17:40
I had my yearly eye exam today and I must say the new technology that is being used is pretty amazing. Last year I was introduced to a new machine called the OptoMap Retinal Exam. It actually takes a detailed color, high resolution picture of your retinal. The detail is amazing and I didn’t have to have my eyes dilated because we used the OptoMap. As my doctor examined the photo of my eyes he noticed that my left eye had several ruptures around some of the blood vessels. He said this was a sign of high blood pressure. He asked me to talk with my regular doctor about it. Now of course I didn’t, I couldn’t have high blood pressure. That was last February and in June of last year I started the Health Edge and started taking USANA vitamins. I have released over 50 pounds and I am feeling better then I have in years. I haven’t been sick all winter, I sleep better at nights and definitely have a bit more zip in my step these days.
Getting back to my eye exam today, they took another photo with the OptoMap and as my doctor was going over the photo he very happily pointed out that all but one of the ruptures was GONE and the last one was fading away too, thank you Healthy Edge and USANA. You want results, you want to change the way you feel, look, and think. Take on the Healthy Edge and use USANA vitamins; all I can tell you is IT WORKS!
The more you commit to doing the homework, following the steps set out before you in the Healthy Edge, the more you listen to the audios and understand how the programs we have embedded in our minds control us, becoming aware of these programs and how to change your thinking around them, and how freeing it is when you really start to understand them, that’s when it all starts coming together. That’s when you wake up one day, the light bulb comes on and you see yourself and everyone around you in a different light. And finally, maybe for the very first time, you experience life as it was meant to be lived. You can’t wait for tomorrow to come so you can take the day on and live life like you never have before. I can’t encourage you enough to take on The Health Edge. It’s so much more then a weight release program. It truly is a lifestyle change that, if you let it, will change your life forever.

Back in the Saddle
Written by Joe Militello Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:23
I am sure all of us have fallen off the horse, me included. Well as the saying goes when you fall off you need to get right back up. I will say this, while I’ve found some of the weight that wasn’t there last September I didn’t find all of it. So now I look at that as a huge victory and so should you. Life happens and none of us is perfect. So what helped me? The people I have around me helped. They encouraged me and didn’t condemn me, they still saw me as the same person and that’s were I fell short. It’s easy to loose our focus and stumble but when we can’t forgive ourselves and move past the wall, we will never move forward. I really want to encourage you to do the same. Forgive yourself and move forward. Start to realize just how much you are worth it. You deserve to be healthy and you deserve to have fun.
I was in San Francisco last week for a seminar, and as I wait at the airport because of a fog delay I had the opportunity to meet a nice couple from Detroit. His name was Joe and he reminded me a lot of me. Not just because we have the same first name but because you hear in his voice the disappointment he had around not being able to walk around Fisherman’s Warf. He is in the same place I was last June. I could barely make for 3 blocks with out my knee getting sore and being just plain tired. He missed those days that he could do the simple things in life. He shared how his daughter would get mad at him and tell he didn’t need to “eat that” which made him mad. I shared with him that she said it because she really loved him and wanted him to be around a while. I really hope that he checks out Active Health Concepts and the Healthy Edge. It really will change his life.
Well last night was the start of the latest Healthy Edge class and today I can’t tell you how happy I am to be back in the saddle.

And The Beat Goes On
Written by Joe Militello Thursday, 02 September 2010 09:20
Now I’m showing my age, I believe that line was from a Sonny and Cher song. It’s true though. The beat does go on. When you make a lifestyle change it has to be a change that continues day in and day out. It can’t be just for a little while or until you’ve reached some goal. I believe that’s the difference between a diet and a change in your lifestyle. Now every day is not a perfect day and for me I don’t always do the things I need to. I fall short of my goals. I make bad choices. I eat food I really shouldn’t and basically not stick with the plan. I’ve also learned I’m not a failure because of it, and that’s a huge breakthrough for me. In the past I would have given in and given up by now. I would have gone back to my old ways, gaining back all of the weight and then some. Not this time. Yes I struggle and I knew I would. But I’m also learning to hang in there. I have an awesome support group of people who care about me and love me. Help is just a phone call away. My biggest problem, my pride, gets in the way and I don’t call. But that ends now. I’m not going back in the other direction. I’m not giving up. I hope you don’t give up either. Surround yourself with those who will support you and then make sure you ask them for help. I am so thankful for Active Health Concepts and The Healthy Edge.
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Amber Thiel, one of the co-founders of The Healthy Edge. It was awesome to meet her and her husband, they where both so full of encouragement and enthusiasm. With help like that I know I can continue on and reach all of my goals.

The Results are in - WOW!
Written by Joe Militello Friday, 06 August 2010 07:47
Sorry this has taken so long to get posted but I’ve been extremely busy. The results are in and I couldn’t be happier. In the course of 8 weeks, from the start of The Healthy Edge to the end, I released 22.8 lbs. Can you believe it? I’m in shock. Then there is the 4 inches around my waist that are gone. If you go back and add the 2 weeks prior to the start of the class, because we actually started watching what we ate and tried some of the recipes before hand, I released a total of 38.8 lbs. I’m feeling better, my clothes have gotten loose. In fact I had to stop wearing some of them because they’re Too Big. I honestly though I would never say that again in my life. My whole family had awesome results. We released almost 50 lbs as a family and close to 8 or 9 inches. Anna got her blood work back this week and her diabetes is under control. Alissa has gotten her life back. She no longer goes home after work and goes to bed. She has the energy to keep going. Finding Active Health Concepts has been one of the best things to happen in my life. I can’t tell you how much more energy I have now. How much better I feel. And the best thing, it’s not a diet. It’s a life style change that works. I want everybody to experience what we have. Please, go check out Active Health Concepts, sign-up for the next FREE seminar on September 14. If you live out of the area go check out the website and then email or call Karen. She or another Healthy Edge facilitator can coach you over the phone. Don’t wait; it really is worth getting your health and your life back. I’m glad I did.
